Information Security Solution ¡V Safeguard Corporate Information Asset

In the modern working environment, computer helps corporate to make profits by accessing update information. However, corporations are also exposed to the risk of leakage of information and know-how to other companies, or even to competitors. Information is so valuable that we want to easily obtain but, paradoxically, avoid easy access by others. How can we keep the balance between convenience and security?

Under the knowledge-based economy, information assets such as product designs, pricing tactics and client database are keys to success. In order to secure the competitive edge of corporations, information must be transferred in a quick and safe way. Some corporations, install CCTV, which can only monitor employees¡¦ actions but cannot keep track with the computer activities.

The e-factory of Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) recently developed a security system, IP-guard, which enables corporations, to trace and record screen snapshots of computers, on real-time basis, within LAN, which located in different offices, through Internet. It enables executives to monitor workstations, even out of reach, on real-time basis. When leakage of information happens, the system enables executives to trace the source of leakage through replaying archived screens snapshots.

According to Mr. Amen Chan Yat-man, Principal Consultant of e-factory, the aim of developing IP-guard is to safeguard corporate information asset instead of monitoring staff. With the help of IP-guard, corporations, should feel safe to open important information to staff and therefore increase productivity. The analyzing power of IP-guard also helps raising the efficiency of resource management.

¡§The setup cost of the system is about HK$20,000. Four (4) IP-guard agents, an IP-guard viewer, an IP-guard server, an IP-guard console and a remote console are included. Extra user license will cost HK$1,500 each. There are 3 enterprises using the system and some other big companies are trying at the current moment,¡¨ said Mr. Chan. He expects that more than 500 enterprises will be using the system this year.
